About Carmen
Carmen Connelly is the owner and principal Occupational Therapist. She is a passionate and committed practitioner who enjoys working collaboratively with individuals to support them in living a meaningful and purposeful life.
Carmen has extensive experience across a range of settings, including adult inpatient, rehabilitation, and community services within the public mental health sector in Queensland and South Australia. She has worked with people experiencing a wide variety of complex mental health challenges, including eating disorders, anxiety and mood disorders, psychosis, personality disorders, and neurodivergent conditions such as autism and ADHD. Carmen has also held leadership roles, provided clinical supervision, and taught at local universities, supporting the next generation of OTs.
Carmen adopts a trauma-informed and recovery-oriented approach, always working with the person rather than focusing solely on a diagnosis. She takes time to understand each individual’s goals, values, and level of function, and partners with them to build strategies that promote independence and wellbeing. In her sessions, Carmen draws on evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing to ensure her clients receive the highest standard of care.
Outside of work, Carmen enjoys socialising with friends, staying active through exercise and tennis, travelling, and unwinding with the latest Netflix series to maintain her own health and wellbeing.
